Former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil
Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil has been put behind bars for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The former Berekum Arsenal's player made news as he allegedly assaulted a police officer who attempted to stop him from leaving the police station while interrogation over an alleged car theft involving him was still ongoing.

The car theft complaint was filed on Tuesday May, 24 by Paintsil's wife who claimed Paintsil had stolen her car, according to reports.

ASP Afia Tenge, Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command confirmed Paintsil was in police custody while the police continue their investigations.

This is not the first time the footballer has had assault cases reported against him.

Three years ago, Paintsil was held in police custody for assaulting his wife and beating a neighbour, who went to his wife's rescue.
